Cozy Fireplace in our hotel lounge in Thunder Bay
The Terry Fox Highway of Courage
It's hard to believe that Lake Superior is more than twice the size of Vancouver Island!
563km long and 257 km wide.
Wow! is right.
Sorry about the picture quality, but it was very stormy.
Sorry about the picture quality, but it was very stormy.
Pretty much all our pics are taken while driving.
When we left Thunder Bay the road was pretty okay,
but soon we and others got taken by surprise by snow squalls off the lake
and it turned from...
okay to bad to..
ugly....
The police closed the highway just after we made it through.
We ended
up in the small town of Marathon were we stayed over night.
30cm+ of
snow yesterday and another 30 cm and more today.
We decided to stay put
and wait out the storm.
Tomorrow we might tackle the most
difficult (weather-wise) route from here through Wawa to Sault Sainte Marie.
After that
things should get easier.
The break in Marathon gave us time to catch up on necessary things such as doing laundry....
It did not look like a laundromat and it had a bit of a creepy feel to it....

open 24hrs, nobody there and located at the end of a dead road in
the middle of nowhere near the forest.
Yes, and there was a sign on the
back door, asking to keep it closed, otherwise...
...the bears would come in....to warm up, I suppose :)
Winter Wonderland!
What's not to like?
